Things to avoid during upsc preparation –

1. Night study 2. procrastination 3. Group study 4. Misguidance 5. Mismanagement

1. Night study –                                                                                                                                                Night is peaceful but studying at night is wrong. The night is for sleeping. Studying at night can cause acidity problems in the body and also you can get stomach disorders. The human body has a habit of sleeping at night and during night sleep your digestion works properly if you study during this period it can be harmful/fatal for you in the future. The study should be stopped after 11 pm. While studying at night you may feel temporary study satisfaction that you have understood the concepts while studying a subject but if you try it the next day then it goes away from your mind. Night studies are temporary. Research done in universities like Cambridge University, and Oxford University has shown that night studying is harmful/fatal for students.

Studying at night can cause eye disorders as well as you can suffer from acidity and stomach ache. Studying awake at night can make you sleepy and lethargic during the day. Every year if you study UPSC toppers closely, you will find that they start their studies early in the morning. If you ask any topper who has cleared the upsc exam whether it is better to study during the day or at night, the only answer they can get is during the day. Studying at night can cause you the following problems – your sleep pattern can deteriorate, stress and anxiety can increase, and your physical health can deteriorate.

Rather than studying at night, if you wake up early in the morning and start studying, you will surely benefit. If you are not able to study early in the morning then you can start studying after eight to nine in the morning.

2. procrastination –                                                                                                                                                Many students fall into the trap of procrastination. Procrastination means delaying studies or work. Procrastination is the practice of putting off the work that needs to be done now to tomorrow or the next day and doing the work that needs to be done tomorrow a week or a month later. To avoid procrastination you have to follow the timetable first. While preparing for upsc you need to avoid procrastination. If you do your scheduled work/study on time then you will surely benefit from it. If you continue to study consistently, you will not get procrastination or tension. Time passes in studies is a form of procrastination. To avoid procrastination, you need to reserve a specific time for each subject, just as you need to set aside a specific time for reading and so on for writing.

3. Group study –                                                                                                                                               There are many students who say that doing group study is beneficial but there is a lot of difference of opinion in this. Group study is only beneficial when the rest of your group members are having a good discussion and not just passing the time. If all the members in the group study are actively participating and asking questions or clearing the concepts without passing time, it is beneficial for you but you need very few members in your group study.IAS Tina Dabi has said that doing group study is harmful. Many UPSC toppers say that group study should be added. Joining group study may be your personal decision but you must find good group members while doing group study. It is true that group study clears many of your concepts and shapes your studies in a better way.

If the group is passing time, you need to leave that group. Your group study should have three to four members only, do not add more than five members. If you have joined group study then you have to ask questions to clear some concepts and also join to analyze the question paper. Many students pass the time in the name of group study and this can delay their studies. If you want to join a group study, make a group of three to four members and study in a group along with dedicated students. You may want to set aside a certain amount of time each day for group study.

4. Misguidance –

While preparing for UPSC, many students or classes may give you misguidance. Many people are likely to have a negative mindset. If you are preparing for UPSC then you don’t need to listen to any fake gurus while preparing for UPSC. If you want to win in UPSC, you need to do analysis and self-study. Wrong suggestion is also a form of misguidance.  Many students are preparing for the exam with you might they be giving you the wrong information. If someone tells you to read more than two books on a subject, it is a form of misguidance. Many coaching classes are misguiding students by showing various temptations. So you should not take anyone’s advice while studying. Especially students preparing for upsc should prepare their self-make book list and prepare their self-study notes.

5. Mismanagement-

To pass any exam or achieve any goal you must be able to manage the workflow. Students preparing for upsc should first plan the time, plan the study, and also plan the strategy. You should study according to this schedule. Your study for pre-examination, the main exam, in a fixed period of time is called management. If you don’t plan your time, it can definitely be a loss for you. Proper time management is the best management. To avoid mismanagement of study or time, you need to avoid the following – procrastination, procrastination, laziness. Keep one thing in mind: Do today’s thing now, tomorrow’s thing do today and the next day’s thing do tomorrow.

6. Laziness/ Laziness –
If you want to reach your goals, you have to give up laziness. While you are lazing around you may find physical and mental relief but it can have bad consequences in the future. If you are preparing for a competitive exam, you can time pass only ten to fifteen minutes a day. Both laziness and time pass are concerns for students. Some students are lazy during the day and some students are lazy at night. Laziness is a waste of time. Every human feels comfort while being lazy. Waking up late in the morning is also laziness. If you want to get rid of laziness, you need to study according to your daily schedule. We have often seen that many students are bright but due to laziness, they fail many exams. On the contrary, average students study without laziness and pass the exams easily.
